Stay Here
03:36
|
|||
Turn off every light in the house, one by one.
Let that moon shine on through like a midnight sun.
I ain't saying you have to go home,
I just know you can't stay here.
I got dreams to make, got no time for mistakes.
Pass the bottle this way, I could use some love tonight.
Dance around that fire like it never felt so right.
Won't you sympathize with my angle?
Babe, I wish you could stay here.
I got risks to take, got no time for debate.
Count to 100 every time you think of me
Teach yourself how to forget about the things that cannot be.
Hear that clock that keeps on ticking,
it might stop if you stay here.
We've got hearts that break, got no time for to fake.

Running Scared
04:14
|
|||
I see you running, running down that road.
Running scared, who's that coming after you?
It's not uncommon, you feel alone.
Running scared, who's that breathing down your neck?
Wait for that sun, the break of day,
to carry you off, your fears away.
You're feeling lost, now that's OK.
Everyone's lost in their own way.
Somebody's calling, looking for you.
Running scared, who's got your number now?
You got a shadow, we all do.
Running scared, who's that coming after you?
Wait for that sun, the break of day,
to carry you off, your fears away.
You're feeling lost, now that's OK.
Everyone's lost in their own way.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.
We're all gonna be OK.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.
Tomorrow is another day.
I see you running, running down that road.
Running scared, who's that got it in for you?

Medicine
04:26
|
|||
I'm peeling labels from the bottles of medicine.
Half a liter later, I'll lose track of where I been
I'm telling stories 'bout the stories I've always told.
I'm at the corner pouring quarters in the telephone.
It always hits me in the nighttime that I live alone.
I'm calling friends in California where the sun's still shining.
But when the opportunity arises.
Void of all restrictions and surprises.
I will beat my chest, and stand up tall with all my best intentions
all lined up on my sleeve.
I'm breaking deals with the shadows I've been living in.
I'm giving up on knowing how it feels to give in.
I'm realizing that horizon is just a line.
I'm calling doctors for a refill on my self-esteem.
I'm calling stations ordering up tanks of gasoline.
I'm setting fire to the liars that have brought us down.
But when the opportunity arises.
Void of all restrictions and surprises.
I will beat my chest, and stand up tall with all my best intentions
all lined up on my sleeve.

Train Song
06:52
|
|||
The world moves sideways from where I'm sitting on this train
Left to right, where I left's not right for me
Counting stops, waiting for my exit to come
It's a sunny day, but they say it's raining at home.
Far away in a vacancy motel
There's a baby crying, the world's in a TV shell
Can't sleep in the daytime, at night no sleep will come
We haven't slept right, no, not since we left home.
But there ain't no sense in moving
Just to prove we're not so lame
But I'll die before I ask for more
Thank you just same.
Let's stay up all night and toast to ourselves
As long as there's track we're not going back to hell
There's liars and cheaters and leaders of wars to come
But we wouldn't know no better if only we'd just stayed home.
But there ain't no sense in moving
Just to prove we're not so lame
But I'll die before I ask for more
Thank you just same.
You can hear that train's whistle in the dead of night all through your bones.
You can hold your lover's hand but still feel so all alone
You might cross your heart but someday you'll hope to die
But you'll never say you never felt so free.
We've been traveling now since 2004
Got our hands in our pockets, we've been dreaming for so much more
Traveling 'round, from town to town, we've come
a long, long way just to say we're going back home.
But there ain't no sense in moving
Just to prove we're not so lame
But I'll die before I ask for more
Thank you just same.

1,000 Miles
01:42
|
|||
Put your finger down on it, just figure it out.
You're a meterless sonnet, a beacon of doubt.
I've seen those storms brewing inside of your head.
Drove an arrow right through them and left 'em for dead.
Inside you's a locket, inside me's the key.
There are holes in your pockets, you lose everything.
But I'll walk right behind you and gather it up.
Put your weight on my shoulders, I'll lift you right up.
And I'll walk 1,000 miles for you.

Still Believe (in You)
05:06
|
|||
How did you know that this is the way it would go?
Life ain't so simple, no, life ain't so simple, you see?
And what makes you think you can drink all your problems away?
The bottles go empty, then empty bottles remain.
But I still believe in you.
Tell me the story of how you ended up here.
I wanna know where it is you're coming from.
The future looks bright, so much brighter than you thought was possible.
Look into the mirror, there's someone I think you should meet.
But I still believe in you.
It's not a feeling worth feeling if it brings you down.
The harder you push it, the further you fall from the light.
Hold on to my hand when you're crossing the river of doubt.
We'll sing hallelujah, come on now, let's sing it out.
And I still believe in you.
Yes, I still believe in you.

Goodbye, VA
05:35
|
|||
Well the cold don't feel like the winters of my youth.
Been raining 'stead of snowing and the wind keeps blowing blues.
I been on the sidewalk praying for some change.
Got an empty cup of coffee that's just dying to be saved.
Said my name is unimportant, I've grown tired of that race.
Been walking 'stead of running, never keeping up to pace.
Got my share of shadows no light could ever kill.
I was born a doubter, now I'm full of doubting still.
I'll tell you 'bout my future but don't ask me 'bout my past.
Was born in Pennsylvania, now I'm ready to get back.
Looking for the exits to deliver me back home.
Paying tolls with good intentions, they're the only things I still own.
So it's goodbye, Virginia; to the District, fair thee well.
Been living 'stead of dying, now I'm thankful for the spell.
For 24 months I've been holding up my chin.
Lived 24 years now I'm ready to begin.
So goodbye, Virginia.
I'm going home.
